Britain’s Car Collection Hotspots: What DeliverMyMotor Booking Data Reveals

Car transport hot spots in britain

Do you ever wonder where the most people are arranging car collections from? We thought it would be an interesting idea to explore so our team looked back through a year of completed DeliverMyMotor bookings to find out the data.

Our team analyzed data from over 683 completed car-transport bookings with a usable collection postcode in Great Britain, spread across 110 postcode areas with the specifics being cars not including Vans, trucks or motorhomes. When running the statistics we found that the YO postcode area, associated with York in North Yorkshire and surrounding locations, had the highest request for car pickups in this sample, followed by B and GU.

However what we did find more interesting was how widely collections were spread over the UK. Even the leading postcode area accounted for just 2.8% of the analysed bookings. We noticed that there was no single location dominating the picture.

We decided to take a snapshot sample of bookings recorded on DeliverMyMotor, not a league table of every single car movement in Britain and here is what our records displayed.

Collection areas that appeared most often

The table covers a large variety of bookings marked Completed between 1 September 2025 and 31 August 2026, in our Car Transport category, only where a full Great Britain collection postcode could be extracted from the job.

Our team then grouped them by postcode area, not city boundary. The place names below are familiar labels for those areas: a booking in the S area, for example, should not automatically be described as a collection inside Sheffield city.

The collection areas that appeared most often are listed below.

RankCollection postcode areaCompleted bookingsShare of analysed bookings
1YO – York area192.8%
2B – Birmingham area172.5%
3GU – Guildford area162.3%
=4MK – Milton Keynes area152.2%
=4PE – Peterborough area152.2%
=6GL – Gloucester area142.0%
=6NR – Norwich area142.0%

=10BS – Bristol area121.8%
=10M – Manchester area121.8%
=10RG – Reading area121.8%

Five top postcode areas came in at a draw for tenth place, so all five are included rather than choosing one.

We found a spread of collection points, not one hotspot

Together, the 14 areas in the table accounted for 197 bookings, or 28.8% of the sample. The remaining 486 bookings were spread across another 96 postcode areas and the only extracted data was for specific car transport.

This data is a useful reminder that car collection is not only a city wide service. Over time our collection addresses show a broad range of locations, although this particular analysis does not establish whether individual pickups were from dealers, auctions, garages or private sellers.

This extraction does not prove that one area is a bigger car market than another. These are small local counts, affected by who used DeliverMyMotor and which jobs were marked Completed, however it is a great insight into popular pickup points for car purchases.

If you are a customer arranging a move in some of the featured areas, our guides cover Peterborough car transport, car transport in Gloucester and Norwich vehicle delivery.

What matters when arranging your own collection?

The exact collection point matters more than where an area sits in a table. Give the transporter the full collection and delivery postcodes, the vehicle details, whether it starts and drives, and any access restrictions.

Confirm that the vehicle is ready to leave and check the collection site’s opening hours before agreeing a date. A clear address and an agreed collection window help avoid unnecessary confusion.

If you are unsure on costs you can always try our car transport cost calculator. We based our calculator on real actual data, not guess work and it provides a guide estimate based on 12 months of sample data from booked work. But as always your actual price depends on the route and job details and as always the latest fuel prices!

Whether your collection is in one of the areas above or somewhere else, our UK car delivery service lets you request quotes from independent vehicle movers.

How DeliverMyMotor produced figures

We reviewed DeliverMyMotor records on 11 September 2026 based on completed work. The starting figure contained 876 bookings in the Car Transport category, with the current job status marked as Completed with a recorded completion date from 1 September 2025 up to, but not including, 1 September 2026.

In this extraction we excluded 192 records without a full collection postcode and one Northern Ireland collection, leaving 683 bookings for this Great Britain postcode-area analysis. That is 78.0% of the starting data.

Every single booking counts only once, regardless of how many vehicles it may have contained. Bookings in other categories, including Vans And Commercials and Urgent Breakdown, are not included. Jobs with other current statuses, including Delivered, Running or Cancelled, are also excluded from the report.

Do remember that postcode areas are not cities and differ in size. We did not adjust counts for population, vehicle ownership or the size of each area. Missing postcode data and differences in completion reporting may affect the ranking. The figures also describe this DeliverMyMotor sample only, not the whole British car-transport market. We make no claim about growth, typical mileage or the reasons behind particular collection patterns.
